Mama Lucy & Shepherds Schools

  • Secondary School: New campus opened including 4 classrooms, temporary boarding facilities, restrooms, a kitchen, teachers' quarters, an Amazon Kindle library, solar power and more.
  • Primary School: Two new classrooms opened.

 

Epic Thanks

  • In its fifth year, Epic Thanks (a.k.a. TweetsGiving) raised $16,981 to fund construction of stables, a chickenhouse, science lab equipment, additional solar power and more at Shepherds Secondary School.

 

LaLaLove

  • In its second year, 288 kids created heartwork for LaLaLove, raising $31,250.79 to fund life-saving heart surgeries for at least 10 Kenyan children.

 

Love Apocalypse

  • Love Apocalypse launched to create community art projects in 15 cities on 5 continents.

 

Global Changemaker Grants

  • Through LaLaLove, Epic Change provided a grant of $31,250.79 to Kenyan nonprofit Take Heart to fund life-saving heart surgeries for at least 10 Kenyan children.

  • Secondary School: Over an acre of land was purchased for construction of secondary school campus.
  • Primary School: Children's home opened.

 

LaLaLove

  • In its first year, 30 schools and children's groups sang their hearts out for LaLaLove, raising $27,740 to fund the first classrooms at Shepherds Secondary School.

 

To Mama With Love

  • In its second year, To Mama With Love inspired 311 people to create heartspaces & make investments in honor of moms they loved, raising $30,802 to support women changemakers in Tanzania, Nepal & Afghanistan.

 

Epic Thanks

  • In its fourth year, Tanzanian TwitterKids Gideon Gidori & Leah Albert travelled with Mama Lucy for an Epic Thanks tour of the US. Visiting 8 US cities from San Diego, CA to St. Petersburg, FL, the tour and our annual online event raised over $31,011 funding classrooms, a deep water well, restrooms, school kitchen, temporary boarding facilities, an Amazon Kindle library, solar power, and a science lab at Shepherds Secondary School.

 

Global Changemaker Grants

Through To Mama With Love, Epic Change provided grants to women changemakers including:
  • $5,421.65 to Suraya Pakzad for operation of the Voice of Women women's shelter in Herat, Afghanistan.
  • $10,000 to Renu Bagaria for her work on the Koseli educational center in Kathmandu, Nepal.

To Mama With Love

  • In its first year, To Mama With Love inspired 330 people to create heartspaces & make investments in honor of moms they loved, raising $16,955 to build a home for 65 children at Mama Lucy's School in Arusha, Tanzania.

 

Epic Thanks

  • In its third year, Epic Thanks (a.k.a. TweetsGiving) inspired nearly 5,000 messages of gratitude, and raised $13,564 from 260 people to fund the purchase of an acre of land for the construction of Shepherds Secondary School. In addition, Epic Thanks supported small grants provided to changemakers selected by our online community - Subhash Ghimire in Nepal, and Mike Halley in Tampa, FL.

 

Global Changemaker Grants

Epic Change provided grants to changemakers nominated and supported by our online community, including:
  • $12,347.93 to Subhash Ghimire to support construction of the Sarswati Peace School in Arupokhari, Nepal;
  • $5,300 to Mike Halley for temporary housing for disabled veterans receiving service dogs in Tampa, FL; and
     
  • $700 to Tori Tuncan for her work on Lend4Health, an experimental online peer-to-peer healthcare funding platform for families caring for autistic children.

TwitterKids of Tanzania

  • Mama Lucy's fifth grade class (a.k.a. the "TwitterKids of Tanzania") was trained in the basics of social media, created Twitter accounts & Tumblr blogs, and connected with people across the globe.

 

TweetsGiving

  • In its second year, TweetsGiving (a.k.a. Epic Thanks) inspired 22,605 messages of gratitude, 37 global meetups and raised $30,902 from 647 people to fund construction of a library and a classroom at Shepherds Primary School. Mama Lucy travelled to the US for the first time to participate in Epic Thanks NYC.
