A diary of an experiment in social entrepreneurship

The Results Are In…

UPDATE, 7:38PM EST 6/9/09:

We were able to share the news with Mama Lucy in Tanzania just after we heard, and wanted to let you in on that conversation. Only listen if you’re ready for a lot of laughing and 4 minutes of pure joy:

Today, Ideablob announced the results of their May 2009 showdown, and sometimes the written word is simply insufficient, so check out my video message below to find out the final tally:

If you missed me screaming madly into the video camera, that’s right, WE WON!!!  $10,000 – TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS – for a technology lab in Tanzania.  Click here you’d like to read the full press release at www.ideablob.com.

Sometimes a girl really needs the universe to just say “yes.”  I’m so truly grateful that you made that possible.

Next week, a giant check will be presented when I have the unbelievable opportunity to speak at the 140 Characters conference in NYC.  If you haven’t yet made plans to attend, it’s a conference not to be missed that’s been called the “Davos of Twitter” and conference organizer Jeff Pulver has generously offered to make available a limited number of discounted event tickets to benefit Epic Change. Just use the discount code “EPICdiscount” to register for the full conference pass at www.140conf.com, and you’ll get tickets for $675, a 25% discount off the regular $895 admission price, and Jeff will donate $200 per discounted ticket to Epic Change.

In an effort to include even more changemakers in the conference, Jeff has also created a limited number of nonprofit discount tickets.  Employees of 501c3 nonprofit organizations who register quickly can receive full conference passes for the two-day event for just $225, a 75% discount off the regular ticket price.  For this discount, send me a request and proof of nonprofit employment at stacey@epicchange.org.

Space and discounted tickets are limited, and discounts are available for new conference registrations only.

I’m too excited to sit still long enough to write more, except to say, from the bottom of my heart: I am so grateful. To each of you who voted, spread the word or even held a little seed of hope in your heart:

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!!

I’m in the process of reaching out to share the news with Mama Lucy, and as soon as I’m able, I hope to add her reaction to this post, so stay tuned…

This is truly amazing and is evidence of the power of community when one, inspiring, tireless and very gracious leader steps forward. Your enthusiasm and grateful politeness via twitter caught me up in the energy of your quest to help others.

Wow! Just Wow!

so thrilled for epic change – cannot think of an individual or organization more deserving.

stacy, i hope you will take a moment and stay still and present in the joy of this wondrous achievementfor even, say…. 24 hours, all to yourself…. (or at least bask in the glow of the limelight :P) … before you again selflessly channel your amazing spirit into effecting powerful impactful change and inspiring still others, as you have me.

We are so excited to win! When I told my son Gideon who is the pupil at Shepherds Junior School who is in the bed sick for malaria this morning, he rose up quickly and wanted to go to school to join with the colleagues to CELEBRATE the victory. Finally, our dreams has come to the reality! We are waiting eagerly to see the lab just blooming in the village of Moivaro, Arusha Tanzania!. Stacey, receive a BIG HUGS from the pupils at Shepherds J.School. We can’t wait to see you physically when you land in this country. Karibu sana – Tanzania – Thanks so much for all what you have done!

[...] The Twitter handles of those who made donations were painted in the room so it is no coincidence that Twitter and the “@” symbol have become quite popular in the school in Tanzania. These days, Mama Lucy and the kids have become passionate users of the microblogging platform and you can follow them yourself here. ”They do not yet have a library, but they access to a world of information!,” Stacey said with much excitement about the kids’ access to the internet, which has been made possible thanks to a recently donated Technology Lab.
